Propulsion

About the Subject:

Propulsion is a means of creating force leading to movement. The term is derived from two Latin words: pro, meaning after or forward; and pellere, meaning to drive. A propulsion system consists of a source of mechanical power, and a propulsor (means of converting this power into propulsive force).

Topics to be covered in this Seminar:

Fundamentals of air breathing engines– thermal efficiency calculations – methods of thrust augmentation – characteristics of turboprop, turbofan and turbojet – performance characteristics. Inlets, nozzles and combustion chamber for jet engines– supersonic inlets- real flow in nozzles and nozzle efficiency – losses in nozzles – equilibrium flow and frozen flow in nozzles– combustion chamber performance –  flame stabilization -Compressors for jet engines – free vortex and constant reaction designs of axial flow compressor – Turbines for jet engines-turbine blade cooling methods –RAMJET propulsion–integral ram rockets.
